SOWING: They are fall planted and fall blooming and can be fertilized twice a year - in late spring and again after flowering in fall. Saffron should be planted two to four inches deep and two to three inches apart.
TEMPERATURE: 40–50°F (4–10°C) .
LIGHT:Plants thrive in full sun but will tolerate part shade, requiring at least 5–6 hours of sun per day at the timef bloom.
SOIL:Saffron crocus performs best in a well-drained soil, rich in organic matter. Avoid excessive nitrogen and fresh manure.
HARDINESS ZONES: Perennial in Zones 5–8 but known to perennialize in Zone 4. Saffron crocus is sensitive to photoperiod and can only grow between latitudes 30° and 50°.
